GreenMaps is a map of Green candidates and organisations. GreenMaps makes it easy to find your local parties and candidates.  It is an alternative to NationBuilder.    When a candidate declares or a local group forms, they get an instant webpage which they can edit, a zip-code-targeted mailing list (with voter data) and a dedicated Discord channel for organising. GreenMaps plays well with WordPress, Email, Discord and Mastodon.  You can also link to other social media accounts. 

NationBuilder​ is a commercial product. 

• Charges per server ("Nation").
• Charges extra for add-ons, API access, and more data.
• Uses servers under the control of a US corporation based in the US jurisdiction.
• Is closed source.
• Has a security model organised by function, not by county.  To protect the data, the system admins will often gate keep access leading to less efficient business processes.
• If you are not using the Advanced Privacy suite of tools, we do not know what happens with our data. 
• Reportedly:
  • Difficult to use.
  • Difficult to set up DNS records perfectly, leading to chronic email problems.
  • Disappearing accounts.

Green Maps is free software.  

• Zero fees.
• No lock in.  Every state or country can run their own server with all source code included.
• GDPR based privacy.  Your data is never sold, and is only duplicated for backups.
• No conflict of interest.  We do not do business with the Democrats or Republicans.  We do not take corporate donations.
• Appropriate security model with permissions organised by state and county party. 
• Voter self-registration by zip code.
• A growing community of Green organisers. (100 Discord Members Aug 2025.)

WordPress plays well with GreenMaps.  Our Discord group includes both WordPress and GreenMaps developers.

• We provide both GreenMaps and WordPress hosting, 
• We provide both GreenMaps and WordPress candidate and party sites. 
• GreenMaps can import WordPress social media links.
