Mission Statement
The goal of the Green Party Tech team is to create the open-source software and privacy-respecting database infrastructure required for progressive candidates to challenge the establishment and win elections.
Many state Green Parties already have significant software infrastructures. Other state Green Parties have hugely dysfunctional web sites and software infrastructure. Where possible we will work closely with state Green Parties. When it is not possible, we will create an alternative. The important thing is to provide good technical support to candidates so that they can win elections.
The initial offering is free or at cost WordPress web sites for progressive candidates. Here is the first such site. We also offer ListMonk announcement lists. We are looking for volunteers and donors to support free Mailman 3 discussion lists, MailJet bulk email servers, a Mastodon server, Discord channels and servers for local parties and candidates. We are looking for people to curate uncensored news. We are looking for ambassadors to connect with candidates.
This project started with this GreenMaps server. GreenMaps supports multiple objectives:
- Make it easy to find and connect with your local and state green parties, candidates and officials.
- Make it easy to volunteer with or donate to the right group.
- Create instant websites for new candidates and local parties.
- Create a useful database of Green Parties, officials and candidates.
Additional functionality is being added:
- Provide a source of trusted state news for participating states.
- Make it easy to connect with other Green Party voters in your neighbourhood. Usually several are needed to start a local party.
- Create a privacy respecting, GDPR compliant, shared database of US Green Party voters. Voters can control who can send them messages. In the unlikely event that the US implements privacy legislation, voters will be able to control who gets a copy of their private information.
