Tom Mair

I have lived in Traverse City for 32 years. I attended Ferris State and Grand Valley Universities. I've led our Traverse Watershed Green Party Local for many years and helped it host State Membership Meetings.

I was elected as a Grand Traverse County commissioner for a two-year term. While in that position, I was on a county jail ad hoc committee. To me, this meant considering mental health issues, training and transition for inmates after completing a sentence.

These issues parallel ones for all students--from the conditions in their lives before they walk through the door to skilled trades training and career education.
