I am running in this race to fight for a better future for my 6 children, and 3 grandchildren. The climate crisis represents a death sentence for our children and grandchildren, and I ask all concerned parents and grandparents to assist me in this campaign.

I am a Green Party candidate because I think voters in Monroe County deserve more of a choice than just the Democratic Party to solve the threat of climate change. I intend to hold both major political parties accountable for legitimate climate change proposals and ideas. It?s not enough to just raise taxes, or promote ideas that are politically popular with the voters. We need to talk about tough sacrifices that won?t be politically popular, to make sure we have shared sacrifice from all in our community. Often times in a crisis government imposes sacrifices on those who can least afford it: Those of lower income, senior citizens and people with disabilities. I will fight for shared sacrifice by all citizens of Monroe County.

I am not running against any person or political party, or even expecting to win the election in November. I understand that it is unlikely that a third party candidate can win in the general election. I am running to raise the level of the debate on climate change. To force my opponents to talk about ideas that are both popular and unpopular with the voters, to talk honestly about the risk for our children and grandchildren if we do nothing about the climate crisis we are facing.

I am going to run a non-traditional campaign. This will be a campaign of ideas, expressed primarily by social media and press releases. I will not be asking our supporters for money, If you want to contribute money to our campaign give to your favorite environmental group to fight climate change. We will be spending no money in this campaign. Winning is not the motivation for my candidacy, ideas and a healthy debate by more than the Democratic Party is the goal. If you really want to help in this campaign, give us your ideas, help us make local government think at a level they have never considered before our campaign. While climate change is the engine driving this campaign, we will be offering ideas, questions and challenges to both major parties on the all of the challenges facing our community.

As a 3rd party candidate I am required to file a petition with over 1000 signatures by the end of June to be on the November ballot. I am asking every voter who agrees that we need more than one active political party in Monroe County to help us obtain these signatures. While I think it is unfair and discriminatory to put such a burden on 3rd party candidates, I welcome the challenge. I think showing that we have a 1000+ people who support the idea of a 3rd party in Monroe Party is a great way to show the current power base that business as usual might not be enough this election cycle.
